Unfolding is a step by step differentiation as in biology
Standard Mechanical Process:
Design and budget constraints expressed (often poorly) by client
Blueprint (which is largely guesswork because nobody can actually know many things in advance) becomes legally binding
Bad guesses can not be changed without expense
Architect/builder/client are separate and sometimes at odds
Methodology of Unfolding:
Careful exploration with the client of what is really wanted
Work is done with large cardboard models that allow real simulation
Since each decision becomes the context for the next decision, each decision is handled as a separate step and concentrated on until is is right. It is the sequence of decisions which is the key to beautiful unfolding.
The budget ceiling is fixed but expenditures within it are adjusted according to project flow.
